As a Black woman, my work is strongly rooted in archival and cultural production. My research and practice focuses on the sartorial roots of African Americans. The work explores the relationships between self-fashioning, communication, visibility, and performativity of dress. My archival practice consists of preserving personal narratives, photography, and memorabilia about Black fashion history that would otherwise be excluded from historic museum and archival collections. In my artistic practice, my work is produced using various materials and processes determined based on my research. My goal with each project is to have the viewer consider the importance of dress and visibility within African-American culture and history from enslavement to the present.
